EQUIPMENT ENGINEER SAFETY
As the largest transportation provider in North America, MTA Metro-North Railroad delivers safe, reliable service to more than 1 billion customers each year. We are currently seeking an Equipment Engineer Safety. In this position, you will ensure that all existing and future rolling stock complies with Code of Federal Regulations (CFR), Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), Metro-North, and American Public Transit Association (APTA) Standards and Recommended Practices applicable to Equipment used in Passenger Service.
Responsibilities include: investigating and establishing "Engineering Standards" for equipment components, subsystems, and systems as a basis for Design and Maintenance activities; Evaluating Existing Fleets with regards to current and future regulations and identify corrective engineering actions required to assure compliance; evaluating specific equipment subsystem/component failures to improve reliability, availability, and maintainability through redesign and/or improved maintenance; and providing Engineering interface regarding equipment design to other departments to support the needs of the Equipment Maintenance Plan.
Candidates must possess a Bachelor`s Degree in Mechanical / Electrical Engineering or related technical field, plus 5+ years related experience in passenger railcar/locomotive design and/or maintenance environments, and 2+ years experience dealing with Federal Railroad Administration (FRA) regulations and APTA Standards and Recommended practices. You must also have 3+ years experience managing projects, and demonstrated equivalent experience with regulations and standards will be accepted. A P. E. License is preferred. Knowledge of Passenger Equipment Systems to perform basic Failure Modes and Effects Analysis (FMEA) and Failure Modes and Effects Criticality Analysis (FMECA) analysis for all conventional and computer-based integrated systems is required. The ideal candidate will also be able to determine appropriate functional requirements for equipment systems with regards to design and maintenance, based on reliability and risk analysis, work with limited direction and effectively interface with various departments/vendors, and perform with a high degree of accountability. Demonstrated PC skills, including use of Microsoft Office Suite, CAD/Auto Cad experience or demonstrated equivalent, and strong oral and written communication skills are desired. You must be able to respond to emergency situations on a 24-hour 7 days per week basis, and possess a valid drivers license. This is a safety sensitive position and subject to toxicological testing.
